Speed-Boil Glass Kettle 1.7L
1500 watts through glass, with no plastic in the water path
This product has no active listing at the moment and there is no restock date. We have kept the specification here so you can compare it, and the buy link returns the moment the listing does. In the meantime, the rest of Brew & Froth is worth a look.
Ask what a kettle is made of and the answer usually turns out to be plastic — a moulded reservoir that the water sits against every morning for years. This one puts borosilicate glass between the element and your cup, with a stainless base underneath, so the only surfaces in the water path are glass and steel. Fifteen hundred watts clears the full 1.7 litres in a few minutes, and the opening is wide enough to get a hand and a cloth inside, which is rarer than it ought to be.
What it is for
The feature list is short, which is the right length for a kettle. It shuts off by itself the moment it reaches a boil, and boil-dry protection catches the morning you flick the switch on an empty jug. The handle stays cool, the base is a full 360 degrees so it seats the same way whichever hand you use, and an internal LED tells you it is running from the other side of the room. More than fifteen thousand ratings have accumulated against it — for a kettle at this price, that is a great many kitchens arriving at the same decision.
Best for: pour-over coffee, loose-leaf tea and French press, plus anyone who has ever tasted the faint plastic note a cheap kettle leaves in the first cup of the day.

Common questions
Is the entire kettle made of glass?
The body is borosilicate; the lid, handle, base and heating plate are steel and plastic, as they have to be. What matters is that the water only ever meets glass and stainless steel on its way to the cup.
Can I set a specific temperature?
No — there is one setting and it is boiling, with an automatic cut-off at the top. If you want a lower temperature for green tea or a pour-over, boil it and let it stand with the lid open for a minute or two before you pour.
How do I descale it?
Fill it half and half with water and white vinegar, bring it to a boil, leave it standing twenty minutes and rinse twice. The wide mouth is what makes this a two-minute job rather than the exercise in frustration a narrow-necked kettle turns it into.
